The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 8 through Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium- Research Information Committee (EVHRDC-RIC) visits Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Main Campus for an Institutional Visit and Call for Proposals cum Special meeting on September 19, 2018 at SLSU Student Center Plenary Hall, SLSU Main Campus, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

A total of 34 participants attended the said activity which comes from the main and external campuses of SLSU composing of faculty and staff of the university. A total of 7 distinguished guests and speakers from EVHRDC-RIC also spearheaded the activity in promoting the agenda on promoting health-related researches.
The EVHRDC promotes health and medical-related researches on various state universities and colleges in the Region 8 and encourage faculty members of the university to submit capsule research proposals based on health research agenda and priorities for possible funding.

Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, SLSU’s Vice President for Research, Development and Extension encouraged the faculty members of the SLSU Community to produce not just the utility models (UMs) but also patentable researches because money is not a problem since there are funding agencies like DOST through EVHRDC who can source out funds in supporting the conduct of such deserving research proposals.

Mr. Willard N. Riveral, Chair of EVHRDC-RIC, presented the Regional Unified Health Research Agenda (RUHRA) 2017-2022 highlighting the identified health research priorities which guides SLSU faculty researchers and funders alike in the development of more relevant health research in the region. Priorities have looked at nutrition, mental health, environmental health, and gender and development among others.
Interested researchers attentively listen to the process of submitting capsule proposals. Indeed, the activity gave the faculty members of the university an eye-opener in conducting research studies with high impact to the society especially in solving various health problems in the country. The SLSU community was indeed blessed and thankful to have EVHRDC in advocating and supporting the health research culture in the Philippines.
