Virtual/Online – Samar State University faculty members and researchers participated in the HERDIN Orientation and Learning Session on 31 May 2023. The event, organized by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), aimed to introduce the HERDIN platform and its valuable features to research-generating institutions. The session focused on enabling participants to effectively manage, organize, and disseminate their research outputs.
Under the coordination of the Executive Director for Research, Dr. Sherrie Ann Cananua-Labid, who also serves as the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium-Research and Utilization Chair, the HERDIN Orientation and Learning Session assembled a distinguished panel of experts and influential speakers in the field. The program encompassed engaging talks, insightful discussions, and interactive sessions, all dedicated to exploring the diverse facets of HERDIN and its invaluable role in research endeavors.
Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, PCHRD Executive Director, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of research collaboration and knowledge dissemination in advancing healthcare. Following this, Ms. Maria Violeta C. Intia provided an in-depth overview of the HERDIN platform, emphasizing its role in connecting researchers and facilitating the exchange of health research information.

The session continued with informative talks by PCHRD experts. Ms. Mylene B. Marco shared insights on creating HERDIN accounts, while Ms. Grace Ruth T. Daulat delved into the intricacies of the Research, Researcher, and Institution Form Data Fields. Participants also gained valuable knowledge on HERDIN search functionalities from Ms. Renzell Ann M. Parino.
To address copyright and data protection concerns, Atty. Exequiel D. Valerio, Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights, Intellectual Property of the Philippines, provided an overview of copyright regulations. Ms. Roren M. Chin, Division Chief of the Public Information and Assistance Division at the National Privacy Commission, discussed data protection practices. Additionally, Ms. Maria Violeta C. Intia presented HERDIN's data protection measures.

The HERDIN Orientation and Learning Session concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University President, represented by Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, Vice President for Research and Extension Services. The university administration expressed gratitude to the PCHRD for organizing such a valuable session and affirmed their commitment to supporting research initiatives within the institution.
The HERDIN platform, as introduced during the session, plays a crucial role in enhancing research visibility and collaboration. It empowers researchers and research-generating institutions to efficiently manage and share their health research outputs while adhering to copyright and data protection laws.

Expanding on the EVHRDC commitment to fostering research excellence, Dr. Sherrie Ann Cananua-Labid enthusiastically shared, "We are delighted to announce that Visayas State University (VSU) and Leyte Normal University (LNU), two esteemed State Universities in the region, will also be conducting the same training this year." This exciting development showcases the collaborative efforts of these institutions in promoting research capacity building and underscores the collective dedication to elevating the quality and impact of health research in the region.
