The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) has again awarded the prestigious Tanglaw Award to the Visayas State University as the country’s Most Outstanding Research Institution for 2019.
VSU will be endowed a 2-million peso grant for ‘station development, capability building, and upgrading of facilities’ and a trophy.
President Edgardo E. Tulin will receive the award on June 19, 2019, at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
“I’m humbled and elated for this recognition given to our beloved VSU—the fruit of our collective effort. This solidifies our reputation as a globally competitive research university in the Philippines,” Dr. Tulin said in a Facebook post.
The award is presented to a research institution that has contributed significantly to the progress of agriculture, aquatic and natural resources R&D in the country. Tanglaw is a Filipino term for ‘light’.
PCAARRD Acting Executive Director Reynaldo Ebora, in a communication letter, congratulated VSU for winning the award.
“May this award inspire you to strive for further excellence and dedication as you continuously work for the betterment of R&D in this nation,” wrote Ebora.
This is the most recent Tanglaw award that VSU has received. Former president Fernando A. Bernardo received the first Tanglaw Award for ViSCA, now VSU, in 1977.
