Tacloban City, February 2, 2018 - The National Nutrition Survey (NNS) is a comprehensive survey conducted every five years by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), since 1978 and the latest was year 2013. In-between the five-year period, the updating survey of Nutritional Status of Children and other Population Groups, is conducted every 2 to 3 years to rapidly assess the nutrition situation of Filipinos.

The 2018 NNS is expanded to provincial/HUC level for all components, to respond to the clamor of Local Government Units (LGUs), Congress and other Stakeholders to have provincial/HUC level data for their local development plan. In addition, the NNS will be expanded to three-year period of data , with the adoption of the new Master Sample (MS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), since the sample households increased fourfold from the 2013 and 2015 surveys.

   

 

Further, the survey is being conducted to provide empirical data on the nutritional and health status of Filipinos for planning nutrition and development programs, and for timely policy decisions at the national, regional and provincial/HUC levels. The geographical areas covered for the three-year rolling survey are as follows: 40 provinces/HUC for 2018; 40 Provinces/HUC for 2019; and 37 provinces/HUC for 2020. 

 

Currently, the Expanded NNS will be conducted for one month to 1,536 households in 95 identified barangays in Tacloban City. Anent to this, the DOST-FNRI Staff namely: Charina Javier, Amparo Rivero and Gina Javier bring in their enumerators to the DOST Regional Office No. 8, Government Center, Palo, Leyte on February 2, 2018, for the courtesy visit. Afterwhich, they went to Tacloban City for courtesy call and actual conduct of the survey.
