CALLING FOR ENTRIES!!!

The Eastern Visayas Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC), in its commitment to promote and empower health research activities in Region 8, will be conducting 2017 Regional Health Research Symposium to be held on June 13-14, 2017 in Tacloban City. This year, the symposium is anchored on the them "Eastern Visayas Health Research and Innovations: Empowering and Transforming Communities". Among the highlights of the activity is the region-wide contest for Oral Research Paper Presentations (Professional Category), Poster Exhibits (Professional and Undergraduate Category) and Poster Making contest.

Tacloban City, April 21, 2017 -- The Eastern Visayas Health Research Development Consortium (EVHRDC) in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) Region 8, has conducted for its third year, the Basic Research Methods Training last April 18 to 21, 2017. This was held at the Ambassador Hotel in Tacloban City. 

 

The training was participated in by member institutions with submitted capsule research proposals and other possible research topics.  Dr. Ophelia Mendoza of University of the Philippines, College of Public Health, and consultant for Philippine Council for Health Research and Development Consortium (PCHRDC) was the  resource speaker of the activity.

           Tacloban City, March 3, 2017 - The National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA), a major document produced by the Research Agenda Committee (RAC) of the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS), serves as the country’s template for health research and development efforts. NUHRA was developed, with the health research priorities perceived as relevant to the country’s public health situation particularly addressing the health issues of the poor and disadvantaged segments of the population.  It is regularly updated to account for recent developments, new directions and thrusts. The updating takes into consideration the United Nation Millennium Development Goals, Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan, National Health Plan, and the National Science and Technology Plan. The Alliance for Improving Health Outcomes, Incorporated (AIHO) is commissioned by the DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) in the crafting of the NUHRA for 2017-2022.

The United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) Conference for 2017 is hosted by the City Government of Catbalogan City, Philippines. It has at least ten different activities conducted simultaneously at various venues in the City of Catbalogan. One of these activities is the holding of S&T fair which is co-facilitated by the Samar State University (SSU), Department of Education (DepEd 8), Department of Science and Technology (DOST 8) and the Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (EVCIERD).

            Tacloban City, March 3, 2017 – As an offshoot of the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC) funded research study entitled “Assessment of the Sanitary Conditions and Food Handlers’ Practices of Public and Private High School Canteens in Eastern Visayas, Philippines”, the Department of Health Regional Office VIII (DOH RO8) in coordination with the study's Lead Investigator Mr. Pet Anthony Pascual and Leyte Normal University (LNU) conducted a “Feedback Forum on Food Safety Research and Training of Food Handlers in Selected Schools in Eastern Visayas” last March 1 – 2, 2017 at the DOH RO8 Conference Room, Bgry. Candahug, Palo, Leyte. The activity aimed to disseminate evidence-based information and use these strategies to adopt and integrate evidence-based health interventions on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

             The activity has three objectives. First, to distribute evidence-based results to food handlers and promote insight on good practices that would ensure the safety and level of protection of the students. Second, to disseminate evidenced-based information to Health Officials which can aid in implementing new programs regarding food safety and third is to provide training to food handlers on food safety to contribute to the general welfare of the people.
